The word "Lughat" (لغت) in Arabic literally means "word" in singular form. In Urdu we use this word to mean a dictionary as well. However, dictionary could be properly called a "Lughat-naamah" (لغت نامه) or "Kitaab-e-Lughat" (کتاب لغت). Since this project is not a dictionary in a usual sense, we have simply named it "Lughat". The project aims to bring to people what we like to call author's personal musings on words. It is, in the first instance, aimed at people who are acquainted with the Urdu language, but have not acquired a sufficient fluency and command of its vocabulary. Those who are not well versed with Urdu's literary heritage or its linguistic potential will find this resource very helpful.
